“So the, the materials are, natural materials from the area got a lot of sandstone, a lot of concrete. I wanted to show the industrial side of Akron. I wanted to show every side of her and capture some of the time of the 1850s when she came. So it was a stone church, so we had to put stone in here, so we have stone pillars, we have lots of beautiful colors, and I love it.”

STORYLINE:
Hundreds gathered in an Ohio city to unveil a plaza and statue dedicated to abolitionist Sojourner Truth at the very spot where the women’s rights pioneer gave an iconic 1851 speech known as “Ain’t I a Woman?”
Truth delivered the speech to a crowd gathered at the Universalist Old Stone Church in Akron for the Ohio Women’s Rights Convention.
The statue was unveiled on Wednesday at the site where the church once stood.
