ADVOCATES FOR THE CATHOLIC LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY ARE CALLING FOR GREATER ACCEPTANCE AFTER THE POPE WAS QUOTED USING A VULGAR TERM ABOUT GAY MEN IN A MEETING ABOUT THE BAN ON GAY PRIESTS.
THE REMARKS WERE MADE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS TO ITALIAN BISHOPS.
A SPOKESPERSON SAID, “THE POPE NEVER INTENDED TO OFFEND OR EXPRESS HIMSELF IN HOMOPHOBIC TERMS, AND HE EXTENDS HIS APOLOGIES TO THOSE WHO WERE OFFENDED."
