Mexico Elects Its 1st Female President

Mexico has elected its first female president. Claudia Sheinbaum received about 60% of the country’s votes. Her closest competitor received about 27%. Sheinbaum’s election is another first for Mexico. While the 61-year-old says she does not consider herself religious, she is the first person of Jewish heritage to lead the primarily Catholic country. Sheinbaum’s six-year term will start on Oct. 1.
