As you know there are more than 50 irregular roads in the northern zone (of Ecuador) where the drug comes mainly from Colombia, it is stored along the entire continental territory and is taken to the sea. These amounts are definitely for international drug trafficking, with the main destination, Central America, North America and European countries."

"An approximate of 120 tons, 120 thousand kilos of drugs (have been seized this year) and more than 4,900 people, almost 5,000 people linked to this crime have been handed to authorities. In this sense, the national police ratifies its commitment to our fellow citizens for their safety."

STORYLINE:
The Ecuadorian chief of the anti-narcotics police on Thursday said his unit had seized almost a metric ton (1.1tons) of cocaine bound for international markets.
Two Colombian nationals were arrested in connection with the haul, which was seized in a valley east of Quito.
"There are more than 50 irregular roads in the northern zone (of Ecuador), where the drug comes mainly from Colombia, it is stored along the entire continental territory and is taken to the sea," explained Lieutenant Colonel Andres Erazo, Director of the Anti-Drug Investigation Police Unit
"These amounts are definitely for international drug trafficking, with the main destination, Central America, North America and European countries," he added.
Erazo estimated the haul could have an estimated street value of two million US dollars.
