β€œThis is the day when South Africa decides. Decides on the future of our country, who should lead the government of South Africa. STORYLINE:
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has voted in his home township of Soweto, Johannesburg, in an election that is widely seen as the most decisive in the 30 years since his African National Congress party took power.

The ANC has been the governing party since 1994, when it won the first democratic elections in South Africa, led by Nelson Mandela, ending years of white minority rule and apartheid. But there is widespread discontent with the party, and several polls put support for ANC at less than 50%.

Ramaphosa spoke confidently about election prospects after his vote.

Preliminary results are expected in the next few days. If the ANC is unable to obtain more than 50% of the vote, they will have to form a coalition with other parties if they want to reelect Ramaphosa under South Africas’s parliamentary electoral system.
