Radio operator Marie Scott, 17, provided link to D-Day beaches as sounds of war filled her headset

Marie Scott “saw” British forces land on the Normandy coast through her earphones.

Stationed in tunnels 100 feet below Fort Southwick on the south coast of England, Scott was safe from the carnage of D-Day. But she heard it all.

Then a 17-year-old radio operator in the Women’s Royal Naval Service, her job was to relay messages to the Normandy beaches and then wait for the recipient to open his channel and reply. (AP Video shot by Kwiyeon Ha)
