STORYLINE:
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa delivered an address to the nation on Friday, six months into his administration, highlighting the government’s efforts against crime.
Noboa also reported on the solutions offered to the energy shortages that during April pushed Ecuador to ration electricity and stop all activities in the capital for days.
Addresses to the nation usually take place after a year of administration, but the anticipated elections in which Noboa was chosen prevented the previous president from delivering one in time.
The president did not refer to April’s seizure of the Mexican embassy to detain a former vice president who sought refuge.
The situation caused the rupture of relations between the two countries.
Daniel Noboa took office after a political crisis when the congress was dissolved, and at a time when Ecuador experienced an escalation of violence with prison riots.
