STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Palestinians participated in an Islamist march in the West Bank city of Ramallah Friday, calling on Islamic nations to militarily intervene to end to the Israeli offensive on Gaza.

Demonstrators carried banners demanding that Arab states act to liberate the Palestinian territories.

"This is a message to the Islamic nation to take action as it has the power, capability and armies (necessary)," said Youssef Abu Zir, a member of the media team of the Islamic group Hizb-ut-Tahrir which organized the protest.

"This devastating war must be stopped through the same force and the same approach, through military action."

The United Kingdom has said that Hizb-ut-Tahrir is anti-semitic and as a terrorist organization.

The group seeks to unite the Muslim world under a theocratic caliphate.

The war was triggered by Hamas’ October 7 attack on southern Israel in which about 1,200 people were killed — mostly civilians — and around 250 were taken hostage

Israel says around 100 hostages are still captive in Gaza, along with the bodies of around 30 more.

Israel faces global criticism over the mounting death toll and devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

At least 35,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry, which doesn’t distinguish between combatants and civilians.

More than 900,000 Palestinians have been displaced by fighting in the past few weeks alone, and now lack shelter, food, water and other essentials, the U.N. humanitarian agency said Wednesday.
