SOUNDBITE (English) Alan Jackson, Defense Attorney:
"You went to John O’Keefe’s house at some point to watch the Patriots’ game on January 16th, right?"
SOUNDBITE (English) Brian Higgins, ATF Agent: "Yes."
Jackson: "That was the time when you indicated that when you left, Karen (Read) gave you a kiss goodbye. Correct?"
Higgins: "Yes."
Jackson: "It’s safe to say that that was not some hot, passionate, long kiss. But you think it was more than just a friendly peck? Correct."
Higgins: "I wouldn’t describe it as a peck. I would describe it as more than friends. It was a kiss."
Jackson: "Well, you did describe it as a peck, didn’t you?"
Higgins: "When?"
Jackson: "When you texted Karen Read and she said it was just a peck and then you texted back, ‘I agree.’"
Higgins: "Figure of speech."
Jackson: "Or the truth, right?"
Higgins: "Figure of speech."

SOUNDBITE (English) Alan Jackson, Defense Attorney:
"Yes, after the Patriots game…"
SOUNDBITE (English) Brian Higgins, ATF Agent: "Okay. Yeah."
Jackson: "You exchanged flirtatious texts."
Higgins: "We did."
Jackson: "With Miss Read."
Higgins: "I did."
Jackson: "And that was over the course of a few weeks. A couple of weeks, but just nine days. Is that right?"
Higgins: "So, it was between the January 12th and, I would say, before the 28th because the 28th she didn’t respond. In the 29th she sent that last text that John died."

STORYLINE:
A federal agent testifying in the trial of a woman charged in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend has described flirtatious texts he exchanged with the defendant.
Brian Higgins is an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who testified as the trial is finishing its fourth week.
Higgins testified that he exchanged flirtatious texts with Karen Read days before authorities said she struck John O’Keefe with her SUV and left him to die in a snowbank.
O’Keefe died on Jan. 29, 2022.
Prosecutors say Read dropped him off at a house party, struck him and drove away.
Read has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and her defense team argues that she has been framed.
O’Keefe’s body was found on the front lawn of another officer, and the defense alleges that state and local law enforcement officials framed Read and allowed the real killer to go free.
