STORYLINE:
A 12 meter-tall (39.3 feet) chevet cross was installed atop Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Friday.
A crane lifted the cross onto the wooden frame of the choir portion of the cathedral, a structure that is itself is still under scaffolding.
The event marked another significant milestone ahead of the cathedral’s expected reopening to the public in December.
The cross survived the devastating fire that five years ago destroyed the cathedral’s roof and caused its spire to collapse.
The cross was designed by architect Eugene Viollet-Le-Duc in the 19th century.
