3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Philippe Jost, President of the Public Establishment for the Conservation and Restoration of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris:
"It’s important because it’s clear that we are near to the reopening of the cathedral and only two hundred days, this week, before D-Day (until it reopens). Six months. It’s near. It’s a challenge but for five years it’s a challenge."
5. Wide of news conference after the cross was lifted atop cathedral roof
6. SOUNDBITE: (French) Olivier Ribadeau Dumas, Notre Dame de Paris Rector:
(speaking about the chevet cross)
"It’s doing something new with something old. Symbolically, for me, it means that nothing is ever really lost. It’s even the sign of the cathedral. If we’d thought on the day of the fire that everything was lost we wouldn’t have done anything. But thanks to the convictions of some, of many, and of the work of enormous amount of people, that this cathedral can reopen in matter of months."

STORYLINE:
A 12 meter-tall (39.3 feet) chevet cross was installed atop Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Friday.

A crane lifted the cross onto the wooden frame of the choir portion of the cathedral, a structure that is itself still under scaffolding.

The event marked another significant milestone ahead of the cathedral’s expected reopening to the public in December.

The cross survived the devastating fire that five years ago destroyed the cathedral’s roof and caused its spire to collapse.

The cross was designed by architect Eugene Viollet-Le-Duc in the 19th century.
