STORYLINE:
The Iranian Embassy in Lebanon held a commemoration in Beirut Wednesday following the death of late President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and other officials killed in helicopter crash earlier this week.
Visitors at the embassy, including local officials, offered their condolences to members of Iran’s diplomatic mission in Lebanon and were received by Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani.
Ibrahim al-Musawi, MP of Hezbollah bloc, said that it is important to "stand for solidarity with Iran" especially because of the "sincerity that Iran has shown to the Lebanese people".
Hashem Safieddine, Head of Hezbollah’s executive council, said that the helicopter crash is a "great loss for the entire Islamic world".
Lebanon’s Hezbollah and other armed groups such as Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been supported by Iran as a way to pressure its adversaries like Israel and the United States.
Earlier, Iran’s supreme leader and representatives of Hezbollah and other militia groups he backs in the Middle East prayed Wednesday over the coffins of officials killed.
