STORYLINE:
Mikey Madison joined American filmmaker Sean Baker on the red carpet in Cannes, as their tale of sex worker "Anora" premiered in competition for the Palme d’Or.
The "Better Things" actor takes the titular role in the drama, which unfolds in Baker’s native New York.
"Anora" follows a young Brooklyn sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch. But hopes of a fairy tale life are threatened when her groom’s parents set out for the States, determined to get the marriage annulled.
Co-stars Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian and Vache Tovmasyan also joined Baker at the festival.
"Anora" is Baker’s second consecutive feature to be nominated for the Palme. The director presented his last movie, comedy drama "Red Rocket," in Cannes’ main competition in 2021.
