2. SOUNDBITE (English) Donald Trump Jr., Trump Organization Executive:
"When our defense goes after arguably the least credible witnesses in the history of, I don’t know, witnesses, you’re not allowed to ask the damning questions of them. The star witness in this case will say, what, nine times convicted liar. And now, Now an admitted thief. That is who they’re hanging the entire case on. The other one happens to be a porn star. Not exactly, not exactly the ultimate form of jurisprudence here. But that’s what you have. And what it’s doing is setting a disastrous precedent for our legal system, for justice in America."

STORYLINE:
Donald Trump’s lawyers have rested their defense without the ex-president taking the witness stand in his New York hush money trial.
The jury was sent home Tuesday until May 28, when closing arguments are expected. Trump did not stop to speak as he left the courthouse and ignored a question about why he wasn’t testifying.
Outside the courthouse, Trump’s son Don Jr. ripped the proceedings, saying they hinge on testimony from a convicted liar and thief.
The first former American president to be tried criminally had previously said he wanted to take the witness stand to defend himself.
Prosecutors have accused the Republican ex-president of a scheme to bury negative stories to fend off damage to his 2016 campaign and falsifying internal business records to cover it up. Trump denies wrongdoing.
