"Verónica Abad said that the government wants to impose a lawsuit in the Electoral Contentious Tribunal. I have no idea about that. Whether they take her to court or not, I have nothing to do with it. Another thing, she said in an interview that we were going to prosecute her for breach of duties, I have no idea about that either. I am taking her to court for campaigning ahead of time."

"I do not rule out bringing President Noboa (Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa) to trial. They are already asking me: Why one yes and the other no? There is something essential here; I don’t care about the internal problems of political sectors."

STORYLINE:
Ecuador’s vice president, Verónica Abad, was charged for alleged electoral violations.
If found guilty, she could face economic fines and also removal from office.
The head of Ecuador’s anti-corruption agency, Juan Esteban Guarderas, announced the charges during a press conference on Thursday.
"There is one issue that is very important to me. I want to win these trials because I want to clean up Ecuadorian democracy," said Guarderas.
The arguments are based on the fact that Abad would have published campaign videos on social networks at the end of 2022 when the law allowed electoral promotion only from January 3, 2023.
Vice President Abad, who has not commented on the accusations, has been in Israel since December, serving as ambassador appointed by President Noboa.
