STORYLINE:
Mavis Leno, philanthropist and wife of Jay Leno, helped to present an award in her name and inspired by her advocacy work on Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Mavis and Jay handed out the inaugural Mavis Leno Award for Global Women’s Rights at the Feminist Majority Foundation’s annual awards and gala, now in its 16th year.
The recipient is director Sahra Mani, who directed the documentary "Bread and Roses," coming soon to Apple TV+. The film illustrates life for women in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
Mavis Leno is on the board of directors of the Feminist Majority Foundation. Its goal is to advocate for economic, social and political equality for all women.
Jay Leno was recently granted a conservatorship of Mavis’ estate due to her dementia diagnosis.
The couple has been married for 44 years.
