“The U.S. keeps politicizing trade and economic issues and further increased tariffs against China, which is doubling its fault. It will only significantly push up the cost of imported goods, causing American businesses and consumers to bear more losses and making American consumers pay a greater price.”

“Huangyan Island (known as Scarborough Shoal in English) is China’s inherent territory, and China has indisputable sovereignty over Huangyan Island and its adjacent waters. China made a goodwill arrangement in 2016 for a small number of small Philippine fishing boats to conduct normal fishing activities in the waters near Huangyan Island, while regulating and supervising their fishing activities in accordance with the law. If the Philippine side abuses China’s goodwill and infringes on China’s territorial sovereignty and jurisdiction, China will safeguard its rights and take countermeasures in accordance with the law, and the responsibilities and consequences incurred will be borne entirely by the Philippine side.”

“China is neither a creator nor a party to the Ukraine crisis. We have not sat idly by or fanned the flames of the crisis, instead, we have been committed to promoting peace talks. Dumping blame on China will not solve the problem. I would also like to emphasize that normal trade between China and Russia is conducted in an open and above board manner in accordance with WTO rules and market principles, and our cooperation does not target third parties and should not be disrupted or threatened by other parties. China’s legitimate and lawful rights and interests allow no infringement.”

STORYLINE:
China’s Foreign Ministry hit out at the U.S. on Wednesday after President Joe Biden slapped major new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, advanced batteries, solar cells, steel, aluminium and medical equipment.
At a daily news briefing in Beijing, ministry’s spokesperson Wang Wenbin warned that the measures would “significantly push up the cost of imported goods, causing American businesses and consumers to bear more losses and making American consumers pay a greater price.”
“We urge the U.S. to earnestly abide by WTO rules and immediately cancel the tariff increase against China. China will take all necessary measures to defend its rights and interests,” Wang added.
Biden said that Chinese government subsidies ensure the nation’s companies don’t have to turn a profit, giving them an unfair advantage in global trade.
