“Symbolic day, because this is the first day of the festival de Cannes and the trial, three-woman, judges, three women, allowed Roman Polanski to tell the journalists, to the world that he is contesting the accusations against him, against Charlotte Lewis and against the others. So it means, they give him a permit to contest, which, before this trial, wasn’t sure. This is true. This is what the French judge said today for Roman Polanski."

You can challenge accusations; you can cast doubt on accusations. The court has just opened the door to the possibility of challenging the liberation of a woman’s word, which must not be taken as such, but which can be challenged, which must be challenged, which is allowed to be challenged. This is what the court has just said today. It’s a victory for the rights of the defence."

STORYLINE:
A French court acquited filmmaker Roman Polanski Tuesday of defaming a British actor whom he described as a liar after she accused him of sexual assault.
The case stems from a 2019 interview with Paris Match magazine, where Polanski allegedly called Charlotte Lewis a liar following her accusations.
The court’s ruling did not address the truth of the rape allegation but focused solely on whether Polanski’s comments in the interview constituted defamation against Lewis. Polanski denied the charges.
The verdict was delivered Tuesday afternoon in a Paris court.
