STORYLINE:
Women and children were among the dead brought to a central Gaza hospital on Saturday after an overnight wave of Israeli airstrikes overnight killed at least 19 people, hospital authorities said.
The bodies of the victims, including eight women and eight children, were seen by Associated Press journalists wrapped in shrouds outside the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
They included nine people who were killed when an Israeli strike flattened a family house in the town of Zawaida, according to hospital records.
Another attack hit a house in the Maghazi urban refugee camp, while a third air raid struck a house in Deir al-Balah itself, each leaving five dead, the records showed.
Israel’s bombardment and ground offensives have killed more than 34,800 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its figures.
Another round of cease-fire talks in Cairo ended earlier this week without a breakthrough.
