1. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Rick Scott (R) Florida:
"I’m here because I’ve known Donald Trump a long time. I knew him before I was governor. I consider him a friend and what he is going through is just despicable. It’s a crime in this country to use a court system to go after your political opponent. What’s happening in this courtroom is clearly criminal. It’s being led by political thugs."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Rick Scott (R) Florida:
"This can’t continue. What’s happening to this president is wrong. We’re watching all over the country, we’re watching all of these cases they’re going after somebody simply because he’s a political opponent of Joe Biden."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Rick Scott (R) Florida:
"This has to stop. We know that President Biden can’t win this election fair and square. He has nothing to run on. And we know President Trump has a record. He secured the border. He had a great economy. We weren’t at war. So that’s why this is happening. Joe Biden knows and Democrats know that he cannot win. Joe Biden cannot win this election."

STORYLINE:
Donald Trump’s hush money trial has resumed Thursday with Stormy Daniels taking the witness stand for a second day of questioning.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida) attended the trial in the morning and spoke to the press during a break, reiterating his support for Trump.

"It’s a crime in this country to use a court system to go after your political opponent. What’s happening in this courtroom is clearly criminal. It’s being led by political thugs," Scott said.

Scott said the gag order issued by the judge impedes Trump’s ability to campaign. The gag order bars the former president from speaking publicly about jurors, witnesses and some others in his criminal trial.

Daniels spent hours Tuesday recounting in sometimes graphic detail the alleged 2006 sexual encounter with the former president that she was eventually paid to keep quiet about during the 2016 presidential election.

Daniels’ testimony is a build-up to the prosecution’s star witness Michael Cohen, who arranged the $130,000 payment to Daniels and later went to prison for orchestrating the payments and other charges.
