"There is nothing here, nor is there any sign of life. We are living through a real tragedy, real in every sense of the word. We are living under bombs, in fear without water, health care, education, or anything. And matters are apparent and clear to everyone. We are now here on the sand by the sea."
4. Various of displaced filling their containers with water
5. Various of crowd of people gathering to get water
6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abu Awad, displaced man:
"I’ve been displaced for six months, from Jabaliya to Rafah. I cannot find shelter now. I went to Rafah to escape the war on us in Gaza. And here I am, I’ve fled Rafah and came to Muwasi, and to Deir al-Balah. I am in an awful shape. I have young children with disabilities and I cannot find a place to settle in. I don’t have money, or anything or any of the necessities of life."
7. Various of woman sitting near her luggage in the street
8. Families near their belongings in the street
9. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Wafaa Masarei, displaced woman:
"You see my luggage thrown about on the ground because I haven’t yet set a tent to stay in. I have to stay in a tent, but look at the suffering and the heat we’re going to deal with, the poverty, hunger, and the tough situation. You see the situation. The situation is very difficult and continues to worsen."
10. Various of tents of displaced people from Rafah on the seashore
11. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahmad Abed, displaced:
"Where can I go? Here we are thrown out on the street, from one shelter to another. We have absolutely nothing, absolutely nothing. My daughter has been sick for 8 months, and the only one looking after us is God. There is nothing to turn to and there is no safe place. Here we are thrown out on the streets and there is no safe place, not in the sea, not in schools. Well where is there a (safe) place for us? Where is the world that is watching us? The Arab and Islamic countries are 22 countries that are watching us. There is nothing that we can resort to. Here we are, thrown out like sheep."
12. Various of tents of displaced people near the sea
STORYLINE:
Palestinians fleeing Rafah are seeking sanctuary in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, where they find themselves worn out by months of war and in desperate conditions.
It’s an all-too familiar scene for many Palestinians fleeing Rafah, who hoped their first displacement would keep them safe for the foreseeable future.
Now, as Israel continues its operation in the southern city near the Egyptian border, Palestinians are fleeing towards the central city of Deir al-Balah.
"We are living through a real tragedy, real in every sense of the word," said Wael Jendia, who was displaced from Rafah.
"We are now here on the sand by the sea," said Jendia, one of many people who are struggling to get through life in displacement.
Many came in cars and carriages with their belongings and are trying to set up a tented settlement on the beach by the Mediterranean Sea.
Upon their arrival, dozens rushed to collect water near an UNRWA, or U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, building while other waited in the heat.
A displaced man who identified himself with the nickname Abu Awad said this is his second displacement.
