STORYLINE:
Surfers and protesters gathered in Ensenada in Mexico on Sunday to voice their anger and sadness at the murder of two Australians and an American on a surfing trip in Baja California.

Some of the demonstrators had stuck protest signs to their surf boards, reading “They just wanted to surf”, and "Australia, we are with you”.

Mexican authorities on Sunday said that relatives had positively identified three bodies found in a well as those of the three men, who went missing last weekend.

Baja California state prosecutors said relatives from the two countries had viewed the remains recovered from a remote well and recognized them as their loved ones.

The foreigners had been on a camping and surfing trip along a stretch of coast south of Ensenada, posting photos of their trip on social media, when they went missing.

Thieves apparently killed the three to steal their truck because they wanted the tires, authorities said.

They then allegedly got rid of the bodies by dumping them in a well near the coast.

A fourth set of remains discovered in the well appeared to have been there much longer, officials said.

Three suspects are being held in connection with the case.
