Israel’s military has seized control of the border crossing in Rafah, the southern Gazan city that has become a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid into the Strip from Egypt. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released images of what it says are its tanks rolling into the city, where over a million Palestinians have sought refuge. Israel’s incursion has cast renewed doubt that an imminent cease-fire deal with the militant group Hamas, which was responsible for the October 7 attacks, will be reached.
