STORYLINE:
A new poll from the American Press Institute and the AP-NORC Center finds that when it comes to coverage of the 2024 presidential election, about half of Americans are extremely or very concerned that news outlets will report inaccurate information.
53% of US adults are concerned that news outlets will report inaccurate information or disinformation in their coverage of the 2024 presidential election, and 42% worried that news outlets will use generative artificial intelligence to create stories.
On many of these topics, Republicans are more likely than U.S. adults overall, Democrats and independents, to be concerned.
As the election approaches, most Americans say that in order for them to make informed decisions about the national and state elections, they want news outlets to report on the candidates’ key values and stances on social issues.
