RESIDENTS BEGAN SHIFTING THROUGH THE RUBBLE SATURDAY AFTER A TORNADO PLOWED THROUGH SUBURBAN OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
THE TWISTER SLAMMED INTO THE ELKHORN NEIGHBORHOOD IN WESTERN OMAHA — A CITY OF 485,000 PEOPLE WITH A METROPOLITAN AREA POPULATION OF ABOUT ONE MILLION.

A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAID ONE, POSSIBLY TWO TORNADOES SPENT AROUND AN HOUR MOVING TOWARD OMAHA. LEAVING BEHIND DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH AN EF 3 TWISTER WITH WINDS 135 TO 165 MILES PER HOUR.
ACCORDING TO THE DOUGLAS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT IN NEBRASKA, NO FATALITIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND FEWER THAN TWO DOZEN PEOPLE WERE TREATED AT OMAHA AREA HOSPITALS.
