STORYLINE:
Dozens of riders on Friday partook in a Peru national show to celebrate the renowned equine breed "Peruvian Steady Gait," as it is known locally.
The show displayed the horses’ distinctive trot, which was originally valued to traverse rough and vast terrain.
A barefoot dancer and a mounted rider also performed the traditional "Female Sailor," which requires a disciplined horse to tiptoe around the performer.
The breed has been recognized as a national cultural heritage in the Andean country since 1993, and the breeders association claims to keep tight records of the horses around the world.
Renzo Valverde, one of the breeders present at Friday’s show, said they value a breed that "can cover long distances in the most comfortable and smoothest way."
