Instead, the debate continues to be about who will replace the Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
President Trump said today he would nominate her successor by the end of the week and thereby attempt to cement a conservative majority on the court ahead of the presidential election in November.
Bader Ginsburg, who was an iconic figure for liberals in the US, died on Friday aged 87.
