"I was born and raised here in Nuuk, Greenland. I’m a half Danish by blood, both of my parents are half Danish. So I thought I would move to Denmark. But coming back and getting into work here, I found my place.I feel a lot more like I belong here. Because of Trump, I’m trying to make sure that who I’m voting for can handle this situation as best as possible."

"At first it’s very unserious, like it’s ridiculous. But his continued efforts in claiming it, it’s quite worrying. I want independence in the long run. And recent events have hurried that process personally. But it’s a question of how we can do it responsibly for our society and our people. It’s so weird to defend that our country is our country because it’s always been our country and we’re just getting our culture back because of colonialism. We’re still feeling those effects."

"The big airport in Nuuk opened in November and we can already see a huge increase of tourists coming into Nuuk especially, which is why I switched industry to tourism because I see the growth potential here. There’s a lot of momentum getting stronger and building, which I’m happy to be a part of, to get that independence eventually and have our own identity as a people. And I think we can take care of our own country as well as we’ve done before."

STORYLINE:
Being half Danish by blood, Cebastian Rosing always thought he would one day move to Denmark. Instead, the 35-year-old decided to stay in Nuuk, Greenland, where he sees growing opportunities for tourism.
Rosing says he has seen an uptick in tourist numbers in Nuuk since an international airport opened in November. He recently started to work for Nuuk Water Taxi, which provides tailored boat trips for tourists in in Nuuk Fjord as well as provides transport for the locals.
Greenland is having a moment in the international spotlight as U.S. President Donald Trump maneuvers to gain control of the mineral-rich Arctic territory that most people know only as a huge icy island at the top of the world.
Amid concerns about foreign interference and demands that Greenlanders must control their own destiny, the island’s prime minister called an early parliamentary election for Tuesday.
Rosing initially thought Trump’s interest unserious and ridiculous. But as the president has repeatedly expressed his interest, he is more worried about it.
"Because of Trump, I’m trying to make sure that who I’m voting for can handle this situation as best as possible," said Rosing.
The world’s largest island, 80% of which lies above the Arctic Circle, is home to about 56,000 mostly Inuit people who until now have been largely ignored by the rest of the world.
