5. SOUNDBITE (French) Junko Shimada, designer – on why the collection is shown on bird mannequins:
"Because I like to make the collection with humor. There is always something a bit broken and funny. How do you say humour? (English) Humor. And I said to myself, a normal mannequin, with a metallic head, it’s sad. But if you see birds, everyone is happy."

STORYLINE:
Junko Shimada created an urban jungle at her Paris studio, to present her fall-winter ’25-26 collection in Paris, Sunday.

The venerable Japanese designer gave mannequins the heads of birds, surrounding them with foliage and birdsong, to evoke a sense of urban wilderness and freedom – and to make those viewing the collection smile.

In the midst of last summer’s heat when she began thinking about the collection, Shimada imagined a cold fall-winter season.

Warm coats came with very skinny leather belts or double breasted; cosy turtle neck mohair knitwear was paired with patterned skirts. Most skirts, except the most formal, had pockets.

While the collection favored black, gray, beige and bordeaux, Shimada scattered pops of bright patterns and leopard print – including in matching shoes.
