STORYLINE:
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) CEO C.C. Wei reaffirmed the company’s commitment to both Taiwan and international expansion in a joint press conference in Taipei on Thursday.
Lai described TSMC’s expansion in the U.S. as a historic moment for both Taiwan and its relations with Washington.
Lai also dismissed speculation that the U.S. pressured Taiwan’s government regarding TSMC’s decision to expand in the United States.
TSMC CEO C.C. Wei emphasized that increasing customer demand is driving the company’s global expansion. However, he reassured that Taiwan remains central to TSMC’s long-term strategy.
Wei also revealed that TSMC is moving forward with plans to develop 1.0-nanometer chips, a major technological milestone in the semiconductor industry.
As TSMC continues to expand both at home and abroad, its leadership remains confident in balancing international investment while maintaining Taiwan as the foundation of its technological advancements.
