STORYLINE:
Syria’s interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in Amman on Wednesday and was received by Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
Al-Sharaa and Abdullah will hold talks later in the day.
They are expected to discuss bilateral relations, commercial ties, border security, regional developments and the issue of Syrian refugees.
Jordan, with a population of less than 12 million, is hosting over 700,000 refugees – the majority are from Syria.
This is al-Sharaa’s first visit to Jordan, and his third foreign trip since being appointed interim president, after Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
