STORYLINE:
“Pope get better soon!” and “Pope are you also afraid of syringes?” were among the tender sentences written under colourful drawings sent by children from all over the world to Pope Francis.
Francis has spent one week in the hospital fighting pneumonia.
He got up to eat breakfast Friday after the Vatican said his overall clinical condition had improved slightly.
But it will take some time to know if the various drug therapies are working
Meanwhile the Vatican has been receiving letters and drawings by email and on social media wishing the pope a speedy recovery.
Father Enzo Fortunato, president of the pontifical committee for World Children’s Day, is collecting them with the aim of bringing them to Francis soon.
One of the letters from a young boy called Gabriel expressed straightforward empathy for the pope.
“On Monday I will also go to the hospital. Will you be there? Are you also afraid of syringes?”, asked Gabriel, from Italy.
