STORYLINE:
Warming shelters across north Texas have opened this week as an arctic front brings colder-than-normal temperatures to the region.

The Austin Street Center, one of Dallas’ largest homeless shelters, has opened three warming shelters to provide those in need with a safe and warm place to stay.

The center’s David Stucker says they’ve served nearly 4,000 people.

The arctic air mass is bringing record-breaking cold to the central United States and forecasters expected some locations to experience their coldest temperatures on record this late in the season.
