STORYLINE:
Brazil’s former president, Jair Bolsonaro, was charged late on Tuesday for attempting to stage a coup, part of a plan that allegedly involved poisoning current President Lula and killing a Supreme Court judge.
Along with Bolsonaro, 33 others, including former ministers and top army generals, were also charged by the prosecutor general.
So, what’s next? The Supreme Court will review the charges, and if they move forward, Bolsonaro and the others will stand trial.
