US President Donald Trump has celebrated the election result in a social media post, saying it was a great day for Germany and the US alike. Trump’s confidant, tech billionaire Elon Musk, endorsed the far-right Alternative for Germany party ahead of the vote. Last month, Musk gave a virtual address at an AfD rally, saying quote ‘Only the AfD can save Germany.’ Friedrich Merz is critical of Musk’s support for the AfD, saying it resembles election interference by Russia.
