"The way that Emil Bove and the Justice Department did this created a "Sword of Damocles." That is, you know, if it goes through as they’ve asked for, turns the mayor into an agent of Donald Trump. I hope Judge Ho will not let that happen. But that’s, you know, one set of issues. And then, you know, I’ve asked for this contingency. I’ve asked for this contingency plan. And we’ve got to see what that looks like. Not easy to replace four senior deputy mayors, but the mayor has got to come forward and say how he’s going to do that. So, you know, those are the factors we’re looking at."

"The issue of the 80 million is just a clear sign of does the mayor…does this administration like this one like — there’s Donald Trump’s interest in stealing our 80 million and there’s New York City’s interest– in having the 80 million. So it’s just not a hard call. Which side is the mayor’s responsibility on? So it’s one straightforward test of sort of where his loyalties lie, with New Yorkers or with Donald Trump."

"The threshold is, do I believe that the mayor is unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office of the mayor as outlined by the charter? Like that’s what the Inability Committee is that has not yet been tested or defined before. So, one, how you have to use your judgment. I did not think previously, when the indictments came down, I said I thought he should resign because he couldn’t I didn’t believe give sufficient time and attention to the job, but I didn’t think at that point it started to come close to the line of inability to discharge the duties."

STORYLINE:
NYC Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander has urged Mayor Eric Adams to present a clear “contingency plan” for keeping the city running after four of Adams’ top deputies announced their resignations.
"That’s a critical thing," Landers said.
Landers has called for Adams to resign of his own accord while keeping the four outgoing deputy mayors in place to “ensure a continuity of services.”
