"We hope by God, by the Palestinian people, and by the Arab rulers, that this deal will be completed, and that they hand over their hostages, and release the Hamas prisoners, and the bloodshed that we saw will not be repeated. We have had enough of the tribulations and destruction that is happening. Stop the bloodshed, and end these events. We do not want wars. We are peaceful. STORYLINE:
Palestinians in Gaza’s urban refugee camp of Jabaliya have rejected plans by U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel to depopulate the coastal enclave, despite massive destruction following a 15-month war between Israel and Hamas.
Trump has called for the Gaza Strip’s roughly 2 million residents to be removed from the war-ravaged territory.
He has suggested they could be resettled in Jordan and Egypt, both of which are vehemently opposed to any such scenario.
Jabaliya saw some of the fiercest ground and air bombardment campaigns during the war.
It was one of the hardest hit areas in Gaza, with most of the camp’s buildings and infrastructure destroyed or damaged.
“We will not leave our country, no matter what happens,” said Muhammad Shaaban, a resident.
Another resident, Mohammad Bahjat, called such plans “unacceptable,” vowing to remain in his homeland.
“This is impossible,” he said of any transfer plans, adding that he and his family would resist such measures.
