4. SOUNDBITE (English) Kaliko Kauahi and Kahyun Kim, actors:
Kim: "I mean, I feel like it’s an honor. Like it’s it’s an honor to make people laugh. And it’s honor to watch our show because we’re so good. Because we’re so funny."
Kauahi: "I’m so happy to be able to do it. We love doing it. I think that shows when you’re watching this show how much we love each other and love what we do. So I’m glad people enjoy it."
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Ethan Slater, actor:
"Working on Wicked has been such a special experience. It’s been so life changing and beautiful that every time a chapter closes, it’s a little heartbreaking, you know? But the idea that we get to do it again, things like this don’t come around that often. So I don’t know. I’m just I’m just excited and I’m grateful for it. And any time that I feel even a tiny bit tired, my first thought isn’t how tired I am. It’s how grateful I am to be tired doing something I love so much."
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Kaliko Kauahi and Kahyun Kim, actors:
Kim: "I mean, I think it’s I mean, also people need work. I think that’s also a thing that has been brought up like in a devastating time like this. That’s I think going back to some normalcy is always like great. And also like financially, it’s something that people need and, you know, so yeah."
Kauahi: "Yeah, we definitely I mean, I live in the San Gabriel Valley and I know a lot of people who have lost a lot. So you, you know, you want to be thoughtful about everything, but like, this event itself employs a lot of people and then bringing attention to all of the shows that everyone’s working on brings, you know, work to a lot of people. So that’s what we want to do is just sort of highlight and get people back to work eventually."
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Emerson, actor:
"I don’t live here, so I don’t know what the tone of things are. It seems like appropriate delays and postponements were taken. And I mean, even people that suffered losses I think want to get back to work probably so. I hope that it has all been handled well. And and that certainly there was a great outpouring of money and love and fellow feeling and camaraderie. And I hope that speaks well about our industry."
8. SOUNDBITE (English) RaMell Ross, director- on his nomination for ‘Nickel Boys’:
I mean, it’s I want a better word than surreal, but that’s the only thing I can come up with. Otherwise, it’s kind of just sheer observation and a bit of shock that the film has been accepted in the way it is. It’s a challenging film and it’s it asks the audience to think and to be part of the story. And yeah, I’m not sure everyone wants to do that. Some people go to cinema for entertainment, some people go for other reasons. So yeah, I’m just happy to be able to share this."
9. SOUNDBITE (English) Sean Evans, host:
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Sean ‘Dino’ Johnson, Jon-Adrian ‘JJ’ Velazquez and Clarence Maclin, actors – on "Sing, Sing"
Velazquez: "But we never knew how far we. Would go with this, but we knew that we had something special and we were just hoping that society would embrace us. And they certainly have."
STORYLINE:
Many stars glittered against the backdrop of a black carpet at the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica Friday night. It’s unusual to have an awards show on a Friday but in a crowded awards season this was the date that worked after the original date was postponed due to the devastating California wildfires.
