2. SOUNDBITE (English) Chief Jason Armstrong (ret.), Former police chief in Ferguson, Mo., and Apex, N.C.:
"When you look at the Chiefs parade last year, it was estimated that there was about a million people out there. The police department had in excess of 800 officers out there. 800 to a million, you know, the math doesn’t math, as they say. And so that’s the number one challenge, is just the overwhelming volume of people. And when you have that many people compacted into a confined space and everybody is shoulder to shoulder, it’s just hard to see everything is hard to account for everything."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Paula Martin, Kansas City Chiefs fan:
“I think it was just an unfortunate thing, you know, that happened. And I am sad because I think it is affecting how they’re going to do the parade this year, if there is a parade, which I hope there is. So, I do think it had something to do with that.”
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Branson Albertson, Kansas City Chiefs fan:
“I think it kind of makes you think about any big event like that, though. It’s it’s always hard to keep the events like that secure and safe, so. But I think I think the city is ready to do a do a good job keeping everybody safe for the parade this year.”

“I think, you know, people down here, they do an awesome job keeping everyone safe. I know, I know, even like that one time we won in 2017, there was not even like, a lot of like, major casualty and nothing happened. There is a lot of safe. So, if the thing is you believe in the Eagles, you guys got to come out. You guys got to celebrate with us.”

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Pio, Philadelphia Eagles fan:
“And no, no safety concerns, you know, we’ll be having a good time, hopefully after they win and then we’ll be flying back home and then hopefully the parade. We will be at the parade on Broad Street. But, you know, right. If you’re always worried about stuff, you never going to do anything. So keep moving.”

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Chief Jason Armstrong (ret.), Former police chief in Ferguson, Mo., and Apex, N.C.:
"You know, we just have to have as many eyes out there as we can, utilizing and technology to the best of our ability to maintain a visual on things that scan the crowd and keep the temperature of what’s going on in the crowd. But it’s it’s when it’s when it’s uncontrolled and you don’t have controlled access, egress and ingress to a space, that’s that’s what adds to the challenges that we often face with it.”
