STORYLINE:
The parents of an Israeli soldier who was killed in the October 7 attack, with his remains taken into Gaza, marked what would have been his 21st birthday on Friday at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv.
Through tears, the soldier’s mother apologized to her late son that he was not included in the first stage of the hostage deal.
Both she and his father vowed to continue their cause until all hostages are brought home.
"Sorry I haven’t been able to get you back yet, sorry there are stages (in the hostage deal), and sorry you weren’t included in stage A. As far as I am concerned, you have always been my priority in life, along with your brothers,” said Hagit Chen, mother of Itay Chen.
A ceasefire agreement took hold last month, halting the 15-month war sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack.
Families of hostages and their supporters gathered as every Friday at the Hostages square for a Shabbat reception, expressing hope to see another three hostages released from Gaza tomorrow.
