STORYLINE:
As part of the Lunar New Year celebrations, a parade featuring colourful dragons and an elaborate snake made its way through the chic Paris neighborhood of Faubourg Saint-Honoré on Wednesday.
The main parade marking the Year of the Snake is set to take place Sunday in Paris’ Chinatown in the 13th district.
The Lunar New Year — known as the Spring Festival in China, Tet in Vietnam and Seollal in Korea — is a major festival celebrated in several Asian countries.
It begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends 15 days later on the first full moon.
Because the lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, the dates of the holiday vary slightly each year, falling between late January and mid-February.
Traditionally, Chinese families gather for a festive dinner at home on New Year’s Eve.
