“This is a transitional period for our country and these funds are present in every locality in Moldova. If you travel from north to south, in every town, you will find a kindergarten or a renovated road funded by European or American money. These funds are vital to keeping Moldova afloat, and I dread to think what the complete cessation of these funds would mean for our country.”

4. SOUNDBITE (Romanian) Oxana Greadcenco, director of Moldova.org:
“In Moldova’s case, foreign donor support is vital to balancing the media landscape. Many television networks and media institutions are funded by Russia, so there needs to be a counterbalance to ensure journalists can document the country’s situation and produce unique media content that reaches the population, alongside Russian-funded content.”

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Sytrime Dervisholi, executive director of the Prefabricated Construction Association of Kosovo:
"It’s immediately suspended. I mean, that’s what we have received yesterday from the USAID projects that we are working with, that it’s an immediate effect the decision of President Trump will enter into force."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Sytrime Dervisholi, executive director of the Prefabricated Construction Association of Kosovo:
"The recent decision by President Trump also affected our association, the prefabricated construction association. Mostly in the sense of providing technical assistance for our member companies on vocational education and training, but also on increasing capacities mainly by grants. So yes, definitely, Kosovo, but also our association is, I would say, dependent on foreign aid, mostly on U.S. aid. So we really do hope that this measure will be, I would say, cancelled after 90 days."

14. SOUNDBITE (English) Safet Gerxhaliu, economic analyst:
"The measure from United States of America regarding support from NGOs and some sectors in the world is, I think, a very negative impact the for future of Kosovo because with those measures is attacked the administration of Kosovo, is attacked private sector, especially education, standardization, certification and production, and production is very important for the future of Kosovo. But I do believe one other impact is very bad because those measures are in same time when Kosovo is under sanction from European community. And I think the dual negative impact would damage future of Kosovo."
