"I’d also like to reassure people that we are in constant communication with our federal partners. Both the mayor and I have been on the phone constantly since last night with representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board, from the governors of Virginia and Maryland and all sorts of other folks who are involved with this tragedy. And I can assure you that they are working as hard and as fast as they possibly can. I mean, they had, they had first responders from multiple jurisdictions respond last night all through the night. First for the rescue and then for the recovery operation. So what can be done is being done."

(Reporter: "How many people are from Wichita, or Kansas, that were on that flight?")
Lily Wu: "As of right now, I don’t have that information. I have been in constant contact with American Airlines and they do tell us that they do not provide that manifest. And so what we do know is that last night, several council members, including the vice mayor and I, along with the city manager and airport director, were at the airport. And one family from this city was there. So I will not confirm the individual’s name, but I can tell you one family did show up to the airport, but no additional families have shown up at the airport."

"We don’t know the exact number at this point. We know that there are four people from overseas that had not been notified. We don’t know how many actually have."

Laura Kelly: "I don’t know."

STORYLINE:
During an afternoon press conference, Lily Wu the current mayor of Wichita said she didn’t have a complete list names of victims that were on the tragic flight in a passenger jet that ended in collision with a Army Helicopter over the Potomac River.
"What we do know is that last night… one family from this city was there," said Mayor Wu and noting that she could reveal the name of the victim.
The collision involved a regional jet out of Wichita, Kansas, that was preparing to land and a military helicopter carrying three soldiers that was on a training exercise, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Skies were clear at the time.
It was the deadliest U.S. air crash in nearly 24 years. At least 28 bodies have been pulled from the icy waters, including the bodies of the three soldiers who were on the helicopter.
Among the passengers were members of the Skating Club of Boston who were returning from a development camp that followed the 2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita.
