2. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Adriano Espaillat, (D) New York:
"We demand that we are at the table what is being discussed because it impacts our communities disproportionately. So we can only see an item of which we have not been part of the discussion. We demand to be at the table in any and all discussions that involve immigration."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Joaquin Castro, (D) Texas:
"Donald Trump and Republican politicians have embarked on a campaign to radically alter American society by stripping away constitutional, legal and civil rights, ending birthright citizenship, and pushing people into the shadows."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Norma Torres, (D) California:
"Recent executive orders calling for mass deportations are nothing more than a political ploy. These policies do nothing, nothing to advance our economic growth, they do nothing to strengthen our nation or uphold our American values. Instead, they risk tearing apart families, destabilizing our workforce, and undermining industries that are critical to our economy. "

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Sylvia Garacia, (D) Texas:
"You, know, I think some people need to just sit down and read the damn constitution because, frankly, if you read it, there is just no question, the founders were crystal clear after debates about who can vote and who can be a citizen, who can actually, you know, it’s this whole I wanted I want you to say whether or not you were an American, whether or not you can vote and what, you know. They wanted to get rid of all that. And they simply said all persons, all persons, didn’t even use a gender born, born, that made you were born in the United States or naturalized United States who are citizens of the United States."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Joaquin Castro, (D) Texas:
"We are going to stand up for families in this country no matter where they are, whether they’re in San Antonio, they’re in Florida, Nebraska, California, Chicago, wherever they are."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Norma Torres, (D) California:
"This is not the America we aspire to be. What we need is comprehensive immigration reform, reform that creates a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants so that they can fully contribute to our American dream."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Sylvia Garcia, (D) Texas:
"We will not be deterred. We will not be stopped, and we will stay the course. And we’re going to stay the course and stand with all immigrants no matter when they got here ,and where they came from."

STORYLINE:
House lawmakers on the Congressional Hispanic Caucus slammed President Donald Trump on birthright citizenship and his plans for mass deportation, saying they will stand behind "Dreamers, farmworkers and families."

President Trump started his second administration with a blitz of policy actions to reorient the U.S. government.

Among other things, Trump is seeking to redefine birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment.

This order is already being challenged in federal court, and Democrats strongly criticized the president on Thursday.

Rep. Sylvia Garcia of Texas agreed.

Members of the CHC said they "want a seat at the table," and will prioritize "Dreamers, farmworkers and families."
