Has Lukashenko silenced the Belarussian opposition? | DW News

Exit polls in Belarus indicate that longtime ruler Alexander Lukashenko has won the country’s presidential election. As polls close there, election authorities are already reporting that Lukashenko has captured 87-point-6 percent of the vote. Lukashenko – who has close ties to Moscow – has now been in power since 1994. Election observers say the vote was largely orchestrated – rigged – and that any meaningful opponents are in prison or exiled.
