"Obviously, this is an indicator of the methods by which (US) President (Donald) Trump and his administration intend to advance the interests of the United States on the world stage. The interests of the United States have never changed, regardless of whether a Democrat or a Republican is in the White House. This interest is to always be stronger than any competitor."
3. Lavrov and Mirzoyan departing
STORYLINE:
Russia’s top diplomat on Wednesday said the interests of the United States haven’t changed with U.S. President Donald Trump taking office.
"The interests of the United States have never changed, regardless of whether a Democrat or a Republican is in the White House," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on Tuesday.
"This interest is to always be stronger than any competitor."
Lavrov made the comments during a joint briefing with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan during the latter’s visit to Moscow on Tuesday.
Mirzoyan commented on his country’s aspirations to join the European Union, stating they came from public initiatives and will be voted on by parliament, although there are no timelines or mechanism in place yet.
