RR7310B BRAZIL CITY OF GOD – CUTS
In 1963 Bradesco, the largest private banking empire in Latin America, moved its headquarters to the outskirts of Sao Paolo, built a complete banking community around it and called it the City of God. It is
a completely self-contained town, guarded like a fortress, with homes, shops, educational and recreational facilities for its 16,000 residents. The standard of living for the people is high and the environment
good, compared with most of Sao Paolo. There is a high degree of uniformity, workers are expected to follow the bank founder’s strict Calvinistic code of behaviour. The town’s motto is "Only Work Produces
Wealth". Despite a high turnover among the residents, the town has grown, and the bank is now thinking of building a new City of God for 16,000 more of its workers.
