Columbus, Ohio – 17 January 2025
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Mike DeWine, (R) Ohio:
"There were many people who I considered very qualified to serve in the United States Senate to represent the state of Ohio, but I came to the conclusion, as you see, that the person who is best-suited to be the United States Senator is a person who has been close to me for the last six years, a person who almost daily I work with, and that is Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Mike DeWine, (R) Ohio:
"I have worked with him. I have seen him. I know his knowledge of Ohio. I know his heart. I know what he cares about. I know his skills. And all of that tells me that he is the right person for this, for this job."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, (R) Ohio:
"My time here at the statehouse has been a true joy, but representing Ohio and the U.S. Senate is an amazing opportunity. I mean, it is amazing, and it is something that an adopted kid who grew up on County Road J in Montpelier, Ohio, could have never imagined."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, (R) Ohio:
"I know Ohio well and I will fight for Ohio as a U.S. Senator. Governor knows that. And I, I really look forward to working with President Trump and Vice President Vance and the Republican majority who have an America First agenda to fight inflation, stop illegal immigration, and advance conservative values and that’s what I’ll do. Because that’s what the people of Ohio need and they care about those things. It’s what they want. We have an opportunity and obligation to deliver."

Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted is Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s pick to succeed Vice President-elect JD Vance in the U.S. Senate.

The 57-year-old Husted is a former Ohio House speaker and secretary of state and will serve in the Senate until Dec. 15, 2026.

A special election for the last two years of Vance’s six-year term will happen in November 2026.
