“Today the trial court in the National Accountability Bureau has convicted Imran Khan and has sentenced him to 14 years to imprisonment and he’s (the judge) also convicted the spouse of Imran Khan to 7 years imprisonment. We consider this to be a verdict which is not based on facts, it’s against the evidence, it is actually a witch hunt, it’s political victimization. Khan has done no wrong, he has committed no crime, he is simply there in the jail to put a pressure on him and it’s a political victimization. We will file an appeal against these judgments and sentences in the Islamabad High Court and we hope we will get justice Inshallah (God willing).”

“This is a fake case, it’s a politically motivated case, everybody in Pakistan knows it. This will go into High Court and most probably get quashed because it is so ridiculous, but it is an embarrassment and a shame for the judiciary that a judge who, whether under pressure or for whatever reasons that he had, I mean for this judge to live with this for the rest of his life to have given such a conviction to Imran Khan 14 years imprisonment for setting up a charitable institution."

“Khan Sahib (referring to Imran Khan) has repeatedly said with his own mouth that he will prefer to die than make any deal with the government. He has not committed any theft, nor has he ever done anything that forced him to become a part of it. As far as these cases are concerned, they were brought out of malice. We are hopeful that, as the other cases in the past have been thrown out, these cases will also be thrown out – God willing.”

STORYLINE:
A Pakistani court on Friday sentenced the country’s already-imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to 14 and seven years in jail after finding them guilty of corruption, officials and his lawyer said.
It’s yet another blow for the former premier who has been behind the bars since 2023.
The couple are accused of accepting a gift of land from a real estate tycoon in exchange for laundered money when Khan was in power.
Prosecutors say the businessman, Malik Riaz, was then allowed by Khan to pay fines that were imposed on him in another case from the same laundered money of 190 million British pounds ($240 million) that was returned to Pakistan by British authorities in 2022 to deposit with the national exchequer.
Khan has denied wrongdoing and insisted since his arrest in 2023 that all the charges against him are a plot by rivals to keep him from returning to office.
