STORYLINE:
A traditional bazaar was held in Baghdad on Wednesday to promote tourism and recognize the skills of Iraqi artisans.
The bazaar was held to celebrate last month’s decision by the Arab Tourism Organization to select Baghdad as the Arab tourism capital for 2025.
"The aim behind this festival is to spread culture," said Khedhir Hamadi, the deputy head of Iraqi Fashion House where the bazaar was hosted.
Hamadi added that he wants the bazaar to reflect an image of Iraqis as a peace-loving people.
Apart from promoting tourism, the one-day exhibition was also organized to help talented Iraqi artisans and boost their business.
It was sponsored by the Iraqi Culture Ministry and the women’s affairs department at the Iraqi Fashion House.
"As a group of women, we have a collection of handmade items that we are working on. It is all work made by women, and the woman is a part of the Arab culture," said Firat Hassan, a participant in the bazaar.
Items on display at the exhibition included jewelry, traditional pottery and decorated mugs.
An artist regaled visitors with songs at the bazaar, which featured a live music show.
